Executive arm more corrupt than legislature and judicial – ICPC Chairman

Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC), Bolaji Owasanoye, says the executive arm of government in Nigeria is more corrupt than the judicial and legislative arm. According to Rasheedat Okoduwa, ICPC spokesperson, Owasanoye made the comment while delivering a lecture at the induction for new legislators in Abuja titled “The legislature and fight against graft and corruption”. Owasanoye described corruption as the enemy of development and good governance. He stated that Nigeria has the highest paid legislators representing the poorest people in the world, he said the national assembly budget had increased, over the years, for the same number of legislators without defensible legal or moral justification. He added that the public perception of legislators as being corrupt will be sustained unless the assembly makes its yearly budget public. “Corruption in the executive is far more than the legislature and judiciary combined.

Customs generates N1.002trn revenue in 9 months

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has generated revenue of about N1.002 trillion from January to September 2019. The data received by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) from the Department of Research and Statistics and confirmed by the NCS’s public relations office indicated that the revenue was generated from 32 commands. The statistics showed that the service recorded the highest revenue of N123.6 billion in the month of July followed by N118.6 billion realised in May. The data also revealed that the lowest revenue was recorded in the month of February with N86.3 billion. The low February’s revenue might have been caused by 2019 general elections due to partial closure of borders within those periods of polls. According to the data, Apapa area command has the highest revenue of N313.5 billion within the period under review. The statistics also indicated that immediately after the partial closure of borders, the service recorded N115.6 billion in September, with about N6.1

Arewa United FC defeat Barcelona to win Buhari Cup football tourney – The Bayajidda Post

Arewa United FC of Kankiya defeated Daura Barcelona FC 1-0 to clinch this year’s edition of Daura Senatorial President Buhari Cup on Sunday. The only goal of the match was scored in the first half by Lawal Umar. Following this victory,  United boys went home with the trophy and the sum of N500,000 donated by the Senator representing the zone,  Ahmed Babba Kaita while the Daura team got N300,000 for their efforts. Similarly,  Daura-based   Musa Haro Academy FC won N200,000 for emerging the second runners-up. Speaking at the occasion the Minister of Sports, Mr Sunday Dare, said the ministry was committed to promoting sporting activities at the grassroots. He said his ministry would soon undertake the rehabilitation of the Daura township stadium as a way of encouraging sporting activities among youths in the  area.
